One Million Views in One Week with Repurposed Content

In Strategic Content Launch Pad, I mention that the content  you release does not always have to be 100% original (or even 100% your own). Repurposed content can be a gold mine.

But to make repurposed content a success, you do have to do one of two things:

  • Although the content may not be original, you have to deliver it in an original way, and
  • Although the content may not be your own, you need add a personal twist to it by adding some sort of value (and obviously have permission to repurpose in the first place).

For example, I know of one very respected online marketer who has repurposed one of the most famous wealth-creation books of all time. The book is in the public domain, so copyright is not an issue. He has added value to it, and gives it away for free. This draws in a lot of visitors and subscribers for him.

I, myself, have repurposed existing content that I created to deliver it in a different way to get a boost of traffic and subscribers.

Today I want to share with you an example of repurposed content that is absolutely beautifully done.

Repurposed Content Goes Viral

The video below went viral and hit close to one million views within a week! 

Since then, the views have dropped off dramatically. But it is still getting around 10,000 views per day. Still not too shabby, right?

I love this video because it resonates with me personally. When I graduated high school, one of my favorite teachers gave me the book – the original content that this video is repurposing. But, clearly, I’m not the only one this resonates with as the video keeps getting shared.

The video is clearly professionally produced. And not everyone can make something of this quality. But everyone can re-package written content an put a pretty cover on it, for instance.

And if  you create videos, they don’t have to have such a high production quality (although it certainly helps).

    Repurposing content is one the games, you will play -
    while you’re waiting out a dark night, or waiting for your day!

    One million views, you’ll be chanting, one million views, you’ll say!
    But not everything works out for you – as you hope – no way!

    And then you’ll be sad, tired and mad. So full of dismay!
    But that’s ok! Because life goes up and down just that way.

    Soon you’ll find a friend – two, three or more – who turn frowns upside…
    DOWN!

    That’s what truly, truly matters at the end of the day.

      Existing content can be a gold mine if used right. I’m brainstorming how to do something like this myself…but it definitely takes some creativity.

      I loved this video! But it does take a lot of creativity to repurpose something and give it new life and originality.

    Hey Eugene,

    You are right. If done effectively, existing content can bring a lot of traffic. But, the thing that most bloggers do nowadays is that they just rehash the information and don’t add anything new to it – their perspective/personality. But, then there are bloggers who do it the right way – like you. I think, I still have to learn a lot with writing blog posts.

      Hi Jeevan,

      Writing is like anything else…the more you do it the better you get at it. And you see how certain things work (and what doesn’t). Nothing beats experience.

      As far as repurposing content goes, you do have to get creative with it. You can’t just rehash it…but rather you have to add a certain personal quality to it or add value. It can actually be harder to effectively repurpose something than create something from scratch I think.

        Yeah, you are right about. It is much harder to take something old and turn it into something new and valuable than writing on something new.
